I’m a filmmaker based in Brighton, working mainly in short and feature-length formats. My work tends to focus on real people, real situations and the odd existential crisis.
In 2022, my feature documentary, Swings and Roundabouts, explored the impact of the COVID pandemic on the people and businesses of Brighton. It was screened at The Rialto Theatre as part of the Brighton Rocks Film Festival, where it picked up a runner-up award for Best Documentary. It’s now available on Amazon Prime for anyone still curious, and even comes with Japanese subtitles, in case that helps.
My current project is a tech-fiction feature titled Automatic (working title unless it sticks). It takes a dim but hopefully compelling look at post-industrial life and the creeping sense of disconnection that comes with it. The script is mostly done, the cast is in place, I’ve secured a main location, and I’m scouting for more locations and extras whilst putting together a shooting schedule.
More soon – assuming nothing terrible happens!
If you’re interested in getting involved, particularly in production, location or just as an extra, feel free to get in touch. Just don’t expect sunshine and car chases; it’s not Hollywood!

Over the past few years, I’ve worked on a mix of documentary, drama and short film projects. I produced and directed The Booth Museum (a documentary) and produced the drama Sunday Morning. Both were screened at the Brighton Cinecity 2019 Film Festival. I directed and produced the short, What Happened to Sam, later that year, which aired on Latest TV in November 2019.
I also worked as a camera assistant on the micro-budget feature High Water by Black Rock Films, which is in post-production. On the writing side, I wrote, produced and directed two short films: Alison, which screened as part of Brighton Rocks Film Festival in 2020, and Nights Like These, shown on Latest TV Brighton in the same year.
Alongside film-making, I offer script writing, filming and editing services. For more information, search for Nigel Chaloner on IMDB and Film Freeway, or get in touch through the Contact page.

MY latest project is a Tech-Fiction feature challenging the depersonalization and disempowerment of Western Capitalist Realism. After over a year I am now finalising the script and starting to think about pre-production. The film is provisionally titled Automatic.
